The fastest way to set up a groove template is to configure a groove in the grooving form and save it as a template. You do not need to go into the library separately: the template is created right from the filled-in form.
When the «Create template» button appears
The «Create template» button appears below the grooving form not always, but only when the groove suits a template:
- the groove is open (runs all the way through);
- it is made on the face — the front or the back side;
- the width, depth and offset are filled in.
If at least one condition is not met (the groove is closed, in an edge or without dimensions), there is no button.
How to create a template
Configure the groove in the form, then:
- press «Create template» below the form;
- enter the «Template name» — by it the template will be recognised in the list;
- press «Save».
The template captures the current values of the form — the width, depth and offset of the groove. The template colour is white by default; if needed, it can be changed later in the library for clarity on the parts.
What next
The created template goes into the company's template library (see the article «The grooving template library») and is immediately available for application to parts via the «Grooving template» button (see the article «Applying a template to a part»).
Why only an open groove on the face
Templates are intended for typical through grooves on the face — for the back panel, the drawer bottom, the shelf. It is exactly for these that reuse gives the most benefit, so the template-creation button is available for an open groove on the face.
