A business leftover is a free piece of a sheet that is left after the order parts have been laid out on it. If it is large enough, it is not written off as waste but kept to be put to use. The firm's leftovers are the business leftovers that stay with the firm.
The minimum size of a business leftover
A piece of a sheet becomes a business leftover only if it passes the minimum sizes:
- in length — not shorter than the set minimum;
- in width — not narrower than the set minimum;
- in area — not smaller than the set minimum area.
Pieces smaller than these values are considered waste and do not go into leftovers. The minimum sizes are set in the production settings and, if needed, can be specific for a particular material.
When a leftover belongs to the firm
Who owns a business leftover depends on how the material is sold:
- if the material is counted by area — the business leftover always stays with the firm;
- if the material is sold by whole sheets — the leftover of the sheet stays with the firm until it is marked as a client's leftover.
On the cutting map such a leftover shows a «Sale type» switch — it sets how the material is counted and who gets the leftover.
What happens to a firm leftover
The firm's business leftovers are accounted for per order and posted to the leftovers stock. After that they can be used again — as a starting sheet in the next cuttings, saving whole sheets of material.

A textureless material: the leftover is measured in any orientation
The minimum sizes of a reusable leftover are set per axis: a minimum along X and a minimum along Y. When the catalogue explicitly marks a material as textureless, the sheet may be laid either way round, so the thresholds are measured against the shorter and the longer side of the piece instead of strictly along the axes.
For example, with the minimums X = 550 and Y = 450 the pieces 550×450 and 450×550 are both reusable for a textureless material. For a textured one the second piece does not become a leftover: it cannot be rotated.
The rule works only on the explicit flag. If the texture flag has not been set on the material, the previous order applies — strictly along the axes.
