The three part sizes — "before trimming, without edge", "after trimming, without edge" and "part with edge" — are linked by a recalculation that iFurn.pro performs itself. It is done not for the part as a whole but separately for each side: the edge band can differ from side to side, or be absent altogether. For the modes themselves and where they are switched, see the article "Part dimension entry modes".
How it is calculated per side
Each side (Top, Bottom, Left, Right) has its own band or a "no banding" mark. The rule is simple:
- a side is banded with a band of thickness T — on that side "part with edge" is larger than "after trimming, without edge" by T;
- a side is not banded — there is no difference on it, nothing is added;
- for each axis both opposite sides are summed: X — left and right, Y — top and bottom.
Example
A part whose "after trimming, without edge" size is 600×400:
- band 2.0 mm on top, 0.4 at the bottom, 0.4 on the left, 0.4 on the right;
- along X: 600 + 0.4 + 0.4 = 600.8;
- along Y: 400 + 2.0 + 0.4 = 402.4.
If "no banding" is selected on all four sides, all the sizes coincide: 600×400.
Band thickness
The thickness is taken from the band record in the company catalog. There is no fixed list of allowed thicknesses in the system — the value is arbitrary; in practice 0.4, 0.6, 1.0 and 2.0 mm are the most common, but a company manager can enter any value. The recalculation always uses the full thickness: there is no option to "count half the thickness on this side".
What is visible in the part card
Two sizes are not shown at the same time in the parts list — only the one matching the order mode selected is visible. If the band on a side is changed or removed, the number is recalculated instantly; there is no "apply" button to press.
Two sizes side by side do appear in the printed short order form — it has separate "saw size" and "size with edge" columns.
Where the sizes go in production
- To nesting and to the saw goes the "before trimming, without edge" size — the one that includes the trimming allowance. The finished part with the edge band is never fed to the saw.
- The edge-banding operator checks the result against the "part with edge" size.
- The customer measures the installation site against the same one.
On import
When importing from Excel or a CAD file the mode is not chosen separately. The system looks at which size field is filled in the source data and takes into account the default setting defined for the customer-and-company pair. The other two sizes are derived automatically by the rules above. If the imported numbers look shifted by exactly the band thickness, the source file was in a different mode and the sizes need correcting.
