#519

After the shape and sizes, the recess needs to be placed on the part. The reference point and the X and Y coordinates are responsible for this.

Reference point

The reference-point switch determines which part of the recess the entered coordinates refer to:

  • By center — the X and Y coordinates set the center of the recess;
  • From the edge — the coordinates set the corner (start) of the recess, and its center is computed by the program: half the length and half the width are added to the corner coordinate.

The switch is shown only when creating a new recess and only for a rectangle and a rounded rectangle. For a circle and when editing an already added recess, the coordinates always refer to the center.

X and Y coordinates

The X and Y fields set the recess position on the part. They can be entered as a number or a formula — the computed value in millimetres is shown nearby. The fields are required. For a circle the labels clarify that these are the center coordinates.

Tip

If it is more convenient to start from the recess corner (for example, «offset so much from the part's edge»), choose «From the edge» and enter the corner coordinate — the center will be computed automatically. If you need to place the recess exactly by a given center, choose «By center».

For the shape and sizes of a recess, see the article «Recess: shape, sizes and type».
