An edge as a product has strict compatibility rules with a panel. If the rules are violated, the calculation and cutting will not pass validation, and the client will see an error. Properly configuring compatibility in the catalog removes half of such problems.
Basic rules
- Edge width = panel thickness + overlap. The edge band must be wider than the panel — at least by the overlap (usually 2–4 mm; the minimum is set by the firm setting «Minimum edge overlap over the material»). For example, an 18 mm panel needs an edge at least ~22 mm wide. The platform automatically filters the list of compatible edges when a panel is selected.
- Color and decor match. This is a recommendation, not a system limitation. The recommended («in-pair») edge is set via the «material ↔ edge» link in the CRM or via synchronization from the accounting system — the client will see it first.
- Edge type. The only system check by type is the laser edge: it can only be applied to a material with the «LAZ» edging type, and vice versa — such a material can only be edged with a laser edge. There are no other restrictions by edge type (PVC, ABS, melamine).
Three kinds of edge↔panel binding
- Universal edge — fits any panel of the matching thickness. For example, a white 18 mm PVC may go on any white 18 mm chipboard panel. It is shown for all compatible panels in the catalog.
- Edge linked to a single material — a specific edge decor available only paired with one specific panel. Useful when you have a unique set of decors and edges from a single manufacturer.
- Paired edge (in-pair) — the edge is set on the panel card as «recommended». When the panel is selected, this edge is automatically added in the hint. The client can accept it or pick another.
Client’s own edges
There are cases when the client brings their own edge (received from a dealer, leftovers from an old order, a specific decor not in your catalog). Such an edge is connected to the project as «client material»:
- The client enters the roll length / total quantity.
- They specify the width (= panel thickness) and characteristics (color, type).
- In the calculation this edge has no price (the client doesn’t pay for the edge itself — only for the work of applying it, if you offer such a service).
The client’s edge is available only in their own project — other clients do not see it.
What the factory (you) defines
- The «material ↔ edge» link: recommended and compatible edges are set in the CRM (the «Material ↔ Edge» menu item) or via synchronization from the accounting system — this is not edited in the admin-panel material card.
- In general settings: whether clients are allowed to connect their own edges.
Binding control in production
A separate optional firm setting catches a typical manager mistake — assigning an edge that is not linked to the selected panel in the reference book (i.e., does not fall under any of the three bindings above). If the setting is enabled:
- a red block «Attention! Edge not linked to material!» appears in the raw-material invoice, with a list of the problematic material ↔ edge pairs;
- such edges are marked with a cross on the label and cutting map.
By default the setting is off and the behavior does not change. This way an incompatible «panel + edge» pair is detected at the document stage, not at the edge-banding machine.
If the client picked an incompatible pair
If somehow an incompatible combination still gets into the project (e.g., after a manual edit), during calculation and order submission the client sees a validation error with an explanation: «edge width X mm does not match panel thickness Y mm». The order cannot be placed until the problem is fixed.
