The QR scanner is built into the portal and is available from any page — the button with the barcode icon in the top bar. Tapping it opens a window with a direct video stream from the device camera. When the camera catches a QR code in frame, the portal automatically recognises it and runs the action that matches the current context.
Where to find the button
In the header of any portal page. The icon is a barcode in a blue frame. The button is always visible, including on the home page before sign-in (but the real action after a scan only runs after login).
How to scan
- Tap the scanner button in the header — a modal window opens.
- On first use the browser asks for camera permission — tap "Allow".
- Aim the camera at the QR code. The optimal distance is 10–30 cm. The code must be fully in frame.
- As soon as the scanner recognises the code, the window closes and the portal runs the action.
Which camera is used
The scanner by default requests the rear camera of the device — it is physically more convenient for aiming at a label. If there is no rear camera (for example on a laptop), the front one is used — but recognition can work worse due to the mirrored image.
What happens after a scan
The action depends on the page where you opened the scanner:
- Home / any page (if not signed in yet) — the portal treats the QR as the worker's personal code and signs you in, see "Signing in to the portal with the personal QR code".
- Inventory section — opens the offcut card by the scanned QR. See "Inventory".
- Orders and pallets section — opens the pallet card or order card. See "Orders and pallets".
- Any page with a part QR — opens the part card.
- Receiving a new offcut — opens the receipt form with pre-filled fields, see "Returning an offcut via QR".
Alternative: manual input
If for some reason the scanner does not work (no camera on the device, poor light, dirty label), almost everywhere in the portal there is a text field for entering the identifier by hand. The label usually has a short ID printed — type that.
Recognition speed
In good conditions (normal light, a flat label, camera focus) recognition takes a fraction of a second. In poor conditions (a dark warehouse, a worn label) it can take 2–5 seconds. If the code is not recognised within 10 seconds, move the phone closer/farther, check the light.
What the scanner can read
- QR codes — the standard machine-readable format used throughout the portal (offcut labels, pallet labels, worker personal codes).
- Barcodes (1D) — some types (Code 128, EAN-13). Used more rarely, mainly on standardised goods.
The scanner does not distinguish "own" and "foreign" codes — it simply reads the value and passes it to the portal. If the code is meaningless in the current page context, the portal shows a clear error.
Closing the scanner window
If you opened the scanner by mistake or changed your mind, use the cross in the top-right corner or click the darkened area around the window. The video stream stops, the camera is released.
