Every panel material in the factory catalog has a set of individual settings that affect the order calculation and the cutting behavior. These parameters are defined on the material card («Settings» / «Properties» section).
Geometry and cutting
Trim along X (trimL) and along Y (trimW)
How many millimeters are cut off from each side of the sheet before cutting, to remove the factory uneven edge. Allowed 0–20 mm on each axis. Affects the effective usable area of the sheet in the calculation.
Example: sheet 2750×1830 mm, trim X=10, Y=10. Trimming is applied to each side, so 2×10 mm is removed per axis, and each cut also consumes the saw kerf. So the usable area comes out a little under 2730×1810 mm (2750-2×10 and 1830-2×10, minus the kerf). All parts are cut within these limits.
Number of rotations (turn)
How many times a part can be rotated when laid out on the sheet. Range 4–6. Affects packing density:
- 4 rotations — the algorithm tries fewer orientation variants. The part still lies only at 0° or 90° (guillotine cutting). Simpler and faster cutting, but a higher waste share.
- 6 rotations — the algorithm tries more variants (the same 90° rotations plus mirrored variants for textured materials). There are no arbitrary angles — parts always lie at 0°/90°. Denser layout, less waste, but a more complex calculation.
Cutting direction (rez_napr)
The initial direction of cuts — which first cut splits the sheet into strips. This is the direction of the cuts, not the placement of parts on the cutting map:
- Horizontal — the first cuts run along the long side of the sheet: the sheet is split into horizontal strips.
- Vertical — the first cuts run along the short side: vertical strips.
- Any — the cutting algorithm chooses the direction of the first cuts.
Hard cut (hard_cut)
«Yes / No» toggle — whether the algorithm may build complex (multi-level) strips. Cutting is always guillotine — straight cuts all the way through, edge to edge. «Yes» — a strip can be split further into sub-strips (strips inside strips): denser layout, but more cuts and a longer calculation. «No» — only simple strips without nested sub-strips: simpler cutting, lower density.
Minimum business remnant sizes (min_rest_size_X, min_rest_size_Y)
If, after cutting, a piece smaller than the specified threshold remains on the sheet — it is not counted as a business remainder and is written off as waste. Typical values: 100–300 mm. Affects what accumulates in the factory’s remainder stock (see Remainders).
Saw kerf (saw)
Saw kerf width in mm. Considered in cutting — subtracted between two neighboring parts. Standard is 3–4 mm for a disc saw on chipboard.
Order of material usage (mat_calc_type)
What to take first when laying out parts:
- Remainders first — the algorithm first tries the available stock cut-offs, then full sheets. Reduces waste, raises remainder turnover.
- Sheets first — cutting on new sheets, remainders are ignored. Used when the client does not want remainders to be used.
- Client remainders and sheets — priority on client material (if they have any), then new sheets. Does not work with regular factory remainders. See Client material.
The default value is set by a firm-wide setting: «Remainders first» or «Sheets first». It applies to every material you add. For a specific material the order can be overridden — you can pick any option, including «Client remainders and sheets». In practice, keep typical fast-moving materials in «remainders» mode and rare ones in «sheets».
«Sewing» operation prohibition for the material
The material card has a «No sewing» flag. When it is enabled, the material is considered incompatible with the «Sewing» operation (joining two parts into one plane). Frontend effect:
- In the operation panel above a part of this material, the «Sewing» icon does not appear — the client cannot add such an operation.
- The material is not visible in the selection list when creating a composite material (the «Create composite material» modal).
Used for materials on which sewing is technologically impossible or undesirable — e.g., veneered panels, materials with a special coating, standardized positions without an adhesive layer.
Other individual settings on the factory side
On the factory side, the material card has other per-material parameters beyond the cutting geometry, business remnant minimum and «No sewing» flag described above. Among them:
- Brand name — override of the base product name specifically for this factory.
- Service exclusions from calculation — per-material: combined cutting, edging, cutting services, end facing. These flags are set and explained on the admin panel side.
- Pre-jointing tool — the milling tool used for pre-jointing the façade panel is specified; the machine is determined automatically by the chosen cutter.
The full list of fields on the material card and their purpose is in the admin guide: Goods — catalog management. Here in cat 132 we describe how these parameters manifest themselves on the client frontend.
