When assigning a band in iFurn.pro, the technologist chooses only the tape. Two accompanying parameters — pre-jointing and curvedness — neither require nor offer a choice: the system sets them itself by strict rules. This is deliberate, and here is how it works.
Straight edging — always with pre-jointing
Pre-jointing is the preliminary milling of the edge before the tape is glued: the cutter removes a thin layer, taking away the saw chips, and the tape lands on a perfectly flat surface. In iFurn.pro straight edging strictly goes with pre-jointing: assign a band to a side — pre-jointing is on. There is no «with / without pre-jointing» switch in the part card — it is a technology rule, not an option.
Pre-jointing is visible through indicators: in the full mode the || symbol is shown next to the side's dropdown, in the quick mode the band number is rendered in bold underlined italics.
Three views of the dimensions
Since the edge is milled, a part has three dimension states, and all three can be seen. The display mode is chosen in the table settings (the gear):
- «Before pre-jointing without band» — the blank size as the saw cuts it (in italics).
- «Part with band» — the final overall size after the tape is glued.
- «After pre-jointing without band» — the size after milling, before the tape (in bold).
It is the same set of parts — only the numbers shown in the length and width fields change. iFurn.pro recalculates all three states automatically from the thickness of the assigned bands.
Curvedness — only automatic
Curved edging cannot be assigned to a side by hand — there is no such item in the part card. The «curved» attribute appears on a side automatically when a shaped template or a milling operation touching that side is applied to the part. Together with the template the side receives both the correct geometry and the curved edging mode — consistently, with no risk of divergence between the shape and the band.
The indicator is the highlighted side icon in the edging column. If the shaped operation is removed from the part, iFurn.pro just as automatically removes the curved mode from the sides that are no longer touched by any shaped operation.
Why it is this way
Both rules remove a whole class of errors. Optional pre-jointing would mean that some parts in a batch are edged over a milled edge and some over a sawn one, and the seam would wander from part to part. Manual curvedness would mean a band could be marked «along an arc» on a side whose geometry has no arc at all — and the machine would receive a contradictory job. iFurn.pro closes both possibilities: the part's shape determines the edging, not the other way round.
