When you open a rectangular part card in a iFurn.pro project, you see four rows for edge band tape — one per side: Top, Bottom, Left, Right. Each side has its own schematic icon, and each has an independent set of settings: its own band and its own edge processing. These are four positions in the card, not a binding to some coordinate axes on the machine.
What each row shows
Next to the side icon the technologist sees:
- Band dropdown — pick an edge material from the company catalog.
- The
||symbol — the side's pre-jointing indicator. - An edge processing letter (R, H, C, F) — if the side has additional processing assigned: rounding, a recessed handle, a mitre cut or a chamfer. Clicking the letter opens the «Edge processing» window where the type, variant and parameters are configured.
All four sides are visible at once — no switching between them.
The band list in the dropdown
In the band dropdown on each side the technologist sees:
- «Select» — initial hint.
- «No edging» — leave the edge bare.
- The bands themselves, in the format
[width/thickness] name— for example,[36/0.4] PVC white gloss.
The list is filtered automatically:
- Only bands whose width is at least the thickness of this board remain (accounting for the minimum processing margin set in the board catalog).
- If the board has «matching band» mode enabled, only bands the company manager has pre-matched to this board remain in the list.
Which side is the «face» side
iFurn.pro does not hard-code the notion of a «face» side — the technologist decides which of the four sides will be visible in the finished furniture. Typically that is:
- For a cabinet front — the side the door opens through.
- For a kitchen worktop — the front edge facing the user.
- For a chest side panel — one of the lateral sides, depending on how the part sits in the carcass.
The technologist usually «loads» that side with a more premium band, and the hidden sides (against the wall, inside the carcass) with the simplest and thinnest. The «face / lateral / hidden» scheme is the technologist's decision, not a category the system remembers.
«Apply to all sides»
If all four sides need the same band, there is an «Apply to all sides» action — the chosen band is set in one click on Top, Bottom, Left and Right at once. On typical parts where the band is the same all around, this saves three clicks per part.
What is calculated automatically
- Gross size of the part — based on net size and band thickness on each of the four sides.
- Length of edged sides — for service costing.
- Cost of the band material — length × catalog band price.
- Cost of the edging service — length × the company's service rate.
What the card does not have
- A binding of sides to machine coordinate axes — Top/Bottom/Left/Right are positions, not X/Y directions.
- Internal numbers or codes for bands — every band in the dropdown is shown by its human-readable name with width and thickness.
- A bonding-method picker (EVA/PUR/laser) on a side — that is the «edge-banding type» on the material, not a property of the side.
- A glue-seam colour picker on a side — that is the «glue type» on the material.
Bottom line
The four sides in the iFurn.pro part card are four independent positions, each with its own choice of band and processing. The technologist mixes freely: different bands on different sides, premium on the face and economy on the hidden, processing on only one side. «Which side is visible» is the human's call; length and cost arithmetic is the system's.
