The edge as a material has its own set of individual settings, different from the panel. They affect the consumption of the edge band in the calculation and the technological tolerances of edging. They are set on the edge card (the «Settings» tab).

Edge waste percentage (per)

What percentage of the edging length goes to waste (joining, end trimming, technological allowance on the machine). The value is set by the factory on the edge card — based on its technology, material specifics and operating experience.

Example: a part has an edging perimeter of 4 m. With per = 10%, the actual edge consumption = 4 × 1.10 = 4.4 m. In the calculation the client pays for 4.4 m of edge rather than 4 m.

Affects:

  • The cost of edging in the client’s calculation.
  • Write-off of edge from stock (planned amount).
  • Ordering of edge from the supplier (for large batches).

Edge cut at the joint (rest)

How many millimeters are trimmed from the edge band at a joint between two rolls. The value applies on both sides of the joint — the actual consumption per joint equals twice the value. The size is set by the factory on the edge card. Affects the consumption for short parts with many joints.

Minimum edging length per side (min)

The minimum edge length that is taken into account when calculating the edging cost. The value is set by the factory in the firm parameters (the «Edging» section). The parameter affects only the price, not the production itself: which edge is glued and on which sides does not change.

During the calculation, the length of each edge is compared with this minimum. If the side is longer than the minimum — its real length is used. If shorter — the short length is «raised» to the minimum. This accounts for the fact that even a short edge requires equipment setup and material consumption — and therefore produces off-cuts.

Edge–panel binding (connected_band)

The link «this edge goes with this panel» is defined on the panel card, not on the edge card. The factory in the admin panel keeps on the panel card a list of recommended edges (the connected_band field). The list can contain one edge, several, or be empty.

On the client side, on the panel card this list is displayed with «Edge for material» checkboxes. The client ticks those needed — the chosen edges are added to the project at the same time as the panel via the «Add to project» button.

«Edges in color only» checkbox

On the panel card there is an additional «Edges in color only» checkbox. It controls the automatic edge selection during cutting:

  • On — in cutting, only edges marked in the «Edge for material» list of this panel are used.
  • Off — selection of any compatible edge from the factory catalog (by thickness / type) is allowed.

The default state of this checkbox is set by the factory in the general production settings. The client can change it on a specific panel when selecting the material.

Other individual edge settings on the factory side

In addition to the three numeric parameters above (waste percentage, end cut, minimum edging length), an edge as a product has the general per-material settings on the factory side — brand name, binding to materials, tools, service exclusions from calculation.

The full list of edge card fields and their purpose matches the panel material and is described in the admin guide: Goods — catalog management. The edge is handled as a regular catalog product; only some specific fields (waste percentage, roll length) differ.

Client edges and these settings

A client edge appears directly in the order — when the submitted project (e.g. imported from a CAD program) references an edge that is not in the firm's catalog. The system creates a record for it automatically, not through the factory's admin panel. Such an edge has no individual per-edge parameters of its own (waste percentage, end cut, minimum length) — the calculation uses the factory's general production settings instead.
