In the «Project materials» section (opened from the constructor header) each material has a «Replace material» selector. This tool lets a single action move all parts from one material to another — without deleting parts and without re-configuring edges/operations.
How the client uses it
- First the client adds to the project the material they want to switch to — usually through the catalog (see Catalog and filters).
- In the «Project materials» section, on the card of the old material, opens the «Replace material» selector.
- Picks the new material from the dropdown — only materials already added to the project are shown there (the current material is disabled so there is no «pick itself»).
- After picking, the system automatically moves all parts from the old material to the new one. The list of parts does not change; sizes and quantities are preserved.
What carries over, what doesn’t
- Preserved: set of parts, their sizes, quantity, assigned edge (if the edge is compatible by thickness), operations (holes, grooves, milling).
- Recomputed: the cutting price for the new material, the actual consumption, the occupancy of sheets/remainders.
- May stop working: if the new material has a different thickness, a previously assigned edge may become incompatible — it will need to be reassigned or replaced (see Edge replacement).
When replacement is convenient
- The client viewed the calculation and wants to see how the price changes when picking another decor.
- The factory updated the chipboard type (e.g., switched from one manufacturer to another) — the client switches with a single action.
- The client decides to save by moving to a more budget-friendly material and doesn’t want to redo the entire part list.
What matters for the factory admin
- Replacement works only in order editing mode — i.e., while the status is «Draft / in editing» (see Saving the project on the server).
- The old material remains in the project after replacement — it is not deleted automatically. To remove it — use a separate deletion operation (Deleting materials and edges).
- If the material is used in a finished item (Goods), the delete button is locked — but replacement via the selector works.
