Edge processing means shaping the part's edge: rounding, chamfer, an angled bevel or a recessed handle. All of them live in one form that works side by side. This article covers the common form and principle; each type is detailed via the links at the end.
Where to open
The form is opened from the part card with the «Edge processing» action. Next to it is a «?» button with this help.
Enabling at production
Edge processing appears only if it is enabled in the production settings. There is a master switch for the interface and separate switches for each type, so the set of available types depends on the production:
- master — enable edge processing;
- enable edge rounding (milling);
- enable chamfering;
- enable edge bevel;
- enable recessed handles.
If some type is not enabled at the production, it will not be in the type list.
Form by sides
The part is processed by four sides — top, bottom, left, right. The sides are shown as a row of four tabs with icons: pick a tab and you see the fields of that side only. A side that already has machining is highlighted in green; a side with unsaved changes is marked with a dot. The state of the whole part is visible at a glance, without expanding every side.
Processing type
The first field in a side is «Processing type». The list always has the «No processing» item, and below it the types enabled at the production. Changing the type resets the previously chosen variant, so you select it again for the new type.
Choosing the specific processing
After choosing a type, the «Processing» field appears — a specific variant from the production library (its own for each type). A variant may have a picture: a small preview next to the field, opening enlarged on click. Variants that do not fit by parameters (for example, a bevel with an invalid angle) are disabled in the list.
Edge band
For some processings an additional «Edge band» field appears — when the processing implies banding the resulting surface (for example, a custom bevel or a handle that is banded). The list keeps only the bands that fit by height to the processed edge.
Edge banding on a free-form cut can be switched off by the firm — the setting «Enable end-cut edge banding» in the firm settings. With it off there is no «Edge band» field on a free-form cut, and any banding already set on such cuts is cleared. Cuts from the end-machining catalogue and inset handles are not affected.
Apply
As soon as something is changed on a side tab, an «Apply» check-mark button appears next to the fields — it saves the setting of that very side. Each side is applied separately.
If a processing becomes unavailable
If a processing was saved on the part and then that type was disabled at the production or the variant disappeared from the library, the side can no longer be configured — instead of the expand arrow it shows a red delete icon. Click it to remove the unavailable processing from that side.
The four processing types
Each type is detailed in a separate article:
- Edge rounding — milling the edge with a rounded profile;
- Chamfering — a chamfer along the edge;
- Edge bevel — an angled cut (custom or standard);
- Recessed handles — a handle profile milled into the edge.
