Furniture parts often come in mirror pairs: the left and right side of a wardrobe, the two side panels of a cabinet. So as not to enter the drilling on each such part anew, iFurn.pro has copying and mirroring — one part is made fully, and its mirror pair is obtained in one click, together with all the holes.

Where it is

The mirroring block appears on a part only if there is something to transfer — CNC operations have been added (drillings, grooves, milling, cutouts, cut-to), an edge cut, or a rotation is set. It is a row of four icon buttons; each has its own «?» icon with help.

Two pairs of actions

The buttons are split into two pairs:

  • Copy with mirroring (vertical and horizontal) — creates a new part, a mirror copy of the original, with all its operations. The original part stays as it is, and a ready pair appears next to it.
  • Mirror (vertical and horizontal) — reflects the current part itself, without creating a copy. Needed when the part was initially entered «on the wrong side».

Vertical and horizontal

This is the axis of reflection:

  • vertical — the part is reflected about the vertical axis, the left and right sides swap;
  • horizontal — about the horizontal axis, the top and bottom swap.

Which axis to choose depends on how the pair of parts is positioned in the product.

What is transferred

All the part's operations are mirrored and copied at once: drilling holes, grooves, milling, cutouts, cut-to and cuts. The coordinates are recalculated for the mirror — the holes end up on the correct side of the paired part, not «reflected blindly». That is why the drilling for hinges, shelf supports and ties is correctly placed right away.

A typical scenario

Make the left side fully — drilling, grooves, machining. Then press «Copy with mirroring» about the needed axis — you get the right side with the holes already placed and correctly reflected. It remains to check the part rather than to enter it anew.

If many parts need changing

When identical holes need to be changed or deleted across many parts at once (rather than mirroring one), use group processing of operations — see the article «Group processing of operations».
