Sometimes when you open a project, a window with two dates and the buttons "Load version from memory" and "Load version from disk" appears. This means the browser detected a mismatch: your local draft and the server copy of the project are different.
Typical situations
- You closed the tab without "Save" — the browser remembered your edits in the local draft, but they didn't reach the server. The next time you open the same project, the system sees the mismatch and asks which copy to use.
- Parallel tab — you opened the same project in two tabs, edited in one and saved in the other. The systems remembered different versions and on opening in a third tab will ask you to pick.
- Browser crash or loss of internet — the browser closed abnormally and the server copy didn't have time to update. Once connectivity is back, the window helps you recover your work.
This is not an error
The window is a safety mechanism. If it didn't exist, the system would silently pick one of the versions and part of your work could be lost. The window gives you control: you see two dates and decide which copy more accurately reflects your work.
Which button to choose
Usually the right choice is the version with the more recent date. Details — in the next article "Memory and disk: which version to choose".
How to avoid this situation in the future
- Click "Save" before closing the tab.
- Don't work on the same project in several tabs at once.
- If you plan to work from different devices — always save to the server after edits, so the draft doesn't stay "hanging" in the browser.
