In practice, narrow edged parts are cut as blanks with an allowance and trimmed to size only after edging — otherwise a thin strip cannot be clamped and edged neatly. iFurn.pro can add such an allowance to the cutting automatically, but only for firms where this technology is enabled.
Who has it enabled
The trimming allowance is not a setting in the cabinet or the admin panel: the developers enable it individually for a firm at the request of its production. For all other firms the part sizes in the cutting do not change: a 300×30 mm part goes to the map as 300×30, and nothing is added to the size. If your production works this way, contact iFurn.pro support.
Which parts get the allowance
When the feature is enabled for the firm, the allowance is added automatically during order calculation — and only to parts that, at the same time:
- have an edge assigned to at least one side;
- have no milling, no grooves and no trimming already set.
Parts without edging and parts with any contour processing keep their finished size.
How the blank size is calculated
Both dimensions of the part are checked against the edged sides:
- if the dimension across the edged side is less than 60 mm, the blank is cut at 62 mm;
- if the dimension along the edged side is less than 110 mm, the blank is cut at 112 mm.
For example, a 300×30 part edged along its long sides goes to the cutting as 300×62, and an 80×40 part edged on one short side — as 80×112. The cutting map and the material calculation use the blank size.
How it is recorded
The addition is stored as a trimming: the part in the order grows to the blank size, and a trimming to the finished size along the left and bottom sides appears in its operations. For production this is an ordinary trimming after edging: the blank is cut with the allowance, edged, then trimmed to the finished size. The material calculation and the cutting map match what really happens on the shop floor.
This is a separate technology from pre-jointing, which removes a thin layer from the edge with a cutter before the edge band is glued on, to get a clean edge. Here the allowance is added on the saw in advance and removed by trimming only after edging.
